Feather fans for incense
Category : Here & Now
Some time ago I made a feather fan myself to distribute the smoke when smoking around me, other people or simply more targeted in the room. Homemade items, which you use in your incense or otherwise in your rituals have a different energy than those that you buy. Because you have made them yourself, you also have a different connection to them.
For the feather fan, I used a piece of the bark of an oak tree. I have collected them at my place of power. You should let the tree bark dry before processing, brush it well and remove the dirt. For the ribbons you need, I recommend you to choose your favorite colors. You can easily collect the feathers on walks.
I actually have a story about this. When I had almost finished my feather fan, I forgot to close the door to my room and my dog ate the almost finished feather fan. It was already very cold outside and the leaves had fallen from the trees. I thought I would not find a single feather outside, but when I went for a walk in the afternoon, I found by chance a place where many feathers were lying on the ground.
The feathers that are suitable for your feather fan will find their way to you.
You should wash and dry the feathers before processing. This is best done in a soap bath. To dry, you can then put them in a jar after you have rinsed them with clean water.
When the feathers are dry you can start processing. First you should look by hand how the feathers fit best in a row. When you have found the best arrangement, then take the needle and preferably white thread to hand and sew them together at the end of the feather, so that they lie together like a fan. To make it stick better you can take some wood glue and spread it at the end of the feathers. Let it dry overnight.
I also made a second row with smaller feathers on my feather fan. Here you also proceed as described above and sew them together with needle and white thread. Then spread some wood glue at the end of the feathers and let it dry overnight.
You can now sew the 2 rows of feathers together and then smear them again with wood glue. Then glue them to the lower side of the tree bark and let them dry for some time. Do not let them dry out completely; the wood glue should still be a little soft. Now you can put the ribbons around the feathers and the tree bark and tighten them a bit. Later you can add your decorations.
Before using the feather fan for the first time, you should smoke it and charge it energetically. You should repeat the charging from time to time.
Have fun creating your feather fan!
