At Advent, it’s especially nice to have a family ritual. You can bake and decorate different cookies together. A homemade children’s punch with cloves, cinnamon and star anise gets the whole family in the mood for Christmas and the kitchen smells of the finest herbs.
In the afternoon, when it is already dark outside, you can gather together in a circle and take a seat in front of the fireplace to eat the cookies and drink children’s punch. Each member of the family who can already read can read a Christmas story and sing Christmas carols together.
Who is allowed to light the candles from the Advent wreath, the tea light from the incense burner, or put on the incense mixture, for example, is decided by lot. Each child draws a small stone from the medicine bag.
This keeps the atmosphere harmonious and everyone gets their money’s worth.
At the end you can also ask questions like:
– Everyone says what they are grateful for (this year),
– Everyone tells the other what he is particularly good at,
– Everyone tells the other what he wishes for the other in 2022…
Drums and rattles can also be included. Children love to perform ceremonies and especially to try themselves musically.
You can end the evening together with a nice filmed fairy tale (such as Fantagiro or Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella, etc.). The children will certainly remember this for a long time.
