Yucca palm propagate

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

If your yucca palm has already grown quite big or it has grown a bit crooked like my “cutting” on the picture, you can cut it off and propagate it.

The yucca palm is an easy-care houseplant. The yucca palm should never stand wet, because it stores water in its robust trunk. It tolerates sun as well as shade, so it is particularly easy to care for and that is why I have taken it especially to my heart!

For the propagation you need a large flower pot. I have taken one without a hole in the bottom. Now fill this flower pot with potting soil. Then take a sharp bread knife and cut off the upper part of the yucca palm. Now lubricate the cut of the trimmed yucca palm with some tree resin, so that the cut is completely covered with the tree resin (as you can see on the pictures below).

Now take the cut piece of yucca palm and remove some leaves from the trunk. It is best to remove a good piece; namely the piece that is then also subsequently planted and disappears in the potting soil.

After you have removed enough leaves, plant it in the flower pot filled with potting soil. Water your offshoot regularly, about once a week.

After a while, the pruned yucca palm will sprout again at the side of the cut. I regularly propagate all my houseplants that I do well with. So I always have beautiful plants in my living spaces.

Have fun with your new plant!
